On February 27th, Elsie B. Hartog passed away peacefully to be with her Lord after 97 years of love for her family and friends and in faithful service to the Lord. She grew up in the Bronx with her parents Herman and Elise Koenig and sister Gertrude (Sergel). She trained as a beautician and graduated from Jane Adams High School (also in the Bronx) and worked over 50 years in several beauty parlors—touching up not only hair color and nails but lives and spirits. She lived her entire married life (37 years) to Dirk Hartog in Mount Vernon, NY, where she was an active member of United Lutheran Church and Church Women United. She is survived by her children and their spouses–Jack (wife Judit), Martin (wife Terri Bennett), and Jan (wife Peggy), and Elise (Burke, husband Kevin); 9 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. In addition, she will be remembered by loving nieces and nephews as well as a multitude of devoted friends and their families.
A wake will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Yannantuono Burr Davis Sharpe Funeral Home, 584 Gramatan Avenue, Mount Vernon, NY 10552. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 10 a.m. at United Lutheran Church at the chapel on the Wartburg campus at 1 Bradley Way, Mount Vernon, NY.
